“The Meadows” was the first 18 hole course I had the opportunity to work on with CSM. Built in and around historic Gallows Hill you can have some eerie feelings on the 5th tee (Peabody use to be part of Salem and the Witch Trials). The course plays over contaminated soil for the first three holes then climbs the rocky terrain. The routing flows with the terrain as almost every inch of it is rock. There is enough movement and slope that only eighteen bunkers, mostly greenside, were built to highlight strategy. Budget allowed a limited amount of capping clay for tee and green complexes. There are even a few old fashioned New England blind shots. This is offset that on a clear day there is a view of the Boston skyline from 11th green.
