Waterplace Park is central to the popular river walk in downtown Providence RI. Swelling populations attending the world renowned Waterfire event have resulted in loss of plant materials and massive handrail damage. Gardner + Gerrish is providing planning and design upgrades including replacement plantings to complement the existing plant palette and help direct crowds. A system for anti-theft handrail replacement has been established and implementation is underway. Amenities such as additional seating, improved lighting and upgraded irrigation are also being considered.
